For more than 40 years, College of the Canyons has provided the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley with access to high quality education and training. College of the Canyons is dedicated to being a leading two-year college, recognized locally, regionally, statewide and nationally for technical advancement, institutional effectiveness, student support, model academic and professional programs, excellence in teaching and learning, fostering a broad range of community partnerships, maximizing student access, and for the sense of community that we provide to our students and staff.

The College of the Canyons Foundation was established in 1987 as the College’s 501(c)(3) non-profit auxiliary organization formed to raise philanthropic support for College of the Canyons. Since its inception, the Foundation has:
• Raised more than $27 million over the last 28 years to support programs and students;
• Established more than 220 scholarships that are awarded annually;
• Raised more than $5 million toward the University Center and Culinary Arts Capital Campaigns;
• Raised more than $1 million for endowed scholarships through the Bernard Osher Foundation initiative;
• Granted more than $255,000 over the last five years for mini-grants to fund innovative projects and academic programs;
• Established the Alumni and Athletic Halls of Fame;
• Established endowments for the Arts, the Library and the Athletic Track; and
• Co-founded the Santa Clarita Valley Nonprofit Leadership Network that serves more than 100 local nonprofit organizations and agencies.

Director of Development (Foundation)

A Classified Management Represented Position

Overall Responsibilities:
Reports to and under the direction of the Foundation Chief Development Officer, the Development Director performs a variety of responsible and complex duties related to the management, operation, and activities/services of the College of the Canyons Foundation, particularly serving as a frontline fundraiser with a focus on raising support through individual, planned giving, and corporate giving. The Director provides leadership through partnering with the other foundation staff members, coordinating and organizing a variety of activities related to supporting the philanthropic efforts of the college. The Director also coordinates, develops and updates prospect listings, donor strategies, and recognition opportunities; identifies, cultivates prospects, stewards donors, and provides programmatic support for fundraising efforts that are deemed Foundation priorities.


Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Equivalent to an Associate’s degree (60 semester units) required from an accredited college or
university. Bachelor’s degree desirable.

Experience:
Three (3) years of full-time equivalent progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success in fundraising with at least two (2) years in a management or supervisory capacity.

Knowledge of:

• How to organize and develop a fundraising plan.
• External funding sources.
• Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to fundraising and development.
• Fundraising technologies; e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
